After completing this module, students should be able to

• classify the knowledge regarding emergent literacy in the Foundation Phase;
• analyse the different methods for teaching a first additional language for grades 1-3;
• analyse concepts of language teaching as presented in the policy document;
• combine the learning outcomes and assessment standards for grades 1-3;
• organise a multilingual classroom in the Foundation Phase; and
• choose suitable texts for teaching a first additional language for grades 1-3.
