Ná die voltooiing van hierdie module sal studente
- gedetailleerde kennis oor die volgende bevat: die aard en waarde van Wiskunde as skoolvak, die kundigheid en vaardighede van die Wiskunde-onderwyser, die departementele beleidsdokumente van Wiskunde, die verskille tussen die kurrikula van Senior en VOO-fases, spesifieke onderrig-en-leerstrategieë wat in Wiskunde gebruik kan word en die belang van 'n gesonde klaskamerklimaat; en oor die vermoë beskik om hierdie kennis toe te pas om programme vir onderrig en leer en lesplanne in Wiskunde as module saam te stel;
- oor die vermoë beskik om indiwidueel, of as deel van ‘n groep, lesse met ‘n leerdergesentreerde benadering in Wiskunde te beplan, voor te berei en aan te bied;
- oor die vermoë beskik om indiwidueel, of as deel van ‘n groep, praktykverwante probleme, wat verband hou met die leerinhoud van hierdie module (bv. die aanbied van ‘n les in ‘n klaskamer wat nie na behore toegerus is nie), te identifiseer, te analiseer en op te los deur die toepassing van toepaslike metodes en werkswyses;
- die vermoë toon om toepaslike inligtingversamelingsmetodes en -tegnieke uit verskillende bronne toe te pas (bv. vir opdragte of die oplossing van probleme); bronne en inligting kan evalueer; en inligting toepaslik vir die taak kan selekteer, analiseer, sintetiseer en die resultate kan interpreteer;
- die vermoë toon om versamelde inligting, resultate van opdragte en/of voorgestelde oplossings van praktykverwante probleme, verbaal of skriftelik, op ‘n betroubare en samehangende wyse aan verskillende gehore te kommunikeer, met die gebruik van taal, terminologie en ander professionele konvensies wat verband hou met die onderrig van Wiskunde deur van geskikte media en tegnologieë gebruik te maak; en
- oor die ingesteldheid en vermoë beskik om verantwoordelikheid te neem vir eie leer deur vordering van eie leer te monitor en eie prestasie teen gegewe kriteria te evalueer; en, indien nodig, eie leerleemtes kan identifiseer en dan toepaslike leerstrategieë en hulpbronne implementeer om die uitkomstes van hierdie module te bereik en sodoende ook soortgelyke wyse medeverantwoordelikheid vir die leervordering van ander groepslede te neem.

After completing this module, students should be able to
- possess detailed knowledge of the following: the nature and value of Mathematics as a school subject, the expertise and skills of the Mathematics teacher, the departmental policy documents on Mathematics, the differences between the curriculums of Senior and FET phases, specific teaching and learning strategies that can be used in Mathematics, and the importance of a healthy classroom climate; and apply this knowledge to compile programmes for teaching and learning and lesson plans in Mathematics as a module;
- have the ability to plan, prepare and present lessons with a learner-centred approach in Mathematics, individually or as part of a group;
- have the ability to identify, analyse and solve practice-related problems relating to the learning content of this module (e.g. the presentation of a lesson in a poorly equipped classroom) by applying applicable methods and procedures, individually or as part of a group;
- show the ability to apply appropriate methods and techniques of gathering information from various sources (e.g. for assignments or solving problems); evaluate sources and information; and select, analyse and synthesise information suitable for the task and interpret the results;
- show the ability to, in verbal or written form, communicate gathered information, results from assignments and/or proposed solutions to practice-related problems reliably and coherently to different audiences, using the language, terminology and other professional conventions related to the teaching of Mathematics by utilising appropriate media and technologies; and
- have the mindset and ability to take responsibility for own learning by monitoring the progress of own learning and evaluating own performance against given criteria; identify own learning deficiencies, if necessary, and implement appropriate learning strategies and resources to achieve this module’s outcomes and by doing so also taking co-responsibility for the learning progress of other group members.
