Ná die voltooiing van hierdie module sal studente

  • rekord kan hou van hul ontwikkeling om in ’n Wiskundige Geletterdheidsonderwyser te ontluik;
  • insig hê in hul eie identiteit en groei wat nodig is om ’n Wiskundige Geletterdheidsonderwyser te kan wees;
  • oor kennis beskik van waarom dit belangrik is om wiskundig geletterd in die 21ste eeu te wees - tesame met die geskiedenis en oorsprong hiervan – en begryp hoe Wiskundige Geletterdheid as vak hiertoe bydra;
  • die verskil tussen die vakke Wiskunde en Wiskundige Geletterdheid in die VOO-fase kan analiseer en hierdie kennis kan toepas sodat dit op die uiteinde tot hul identiteit as Wiskundige Geletterdheidsonderwyser bydra;
  • kan erken en verduidelik waarom die toepassing van basiese wiskundige vaardighede in alledaagse probleme belangrik is en basiese aktiwiteite kan ontwerp om die belang hiervan te illustreer;
  • die vermoë demonstreer om saam aan ’n taak te kan werk en in staat wees om konstruktief op die resultaat en proses te reflekteer;
  • voorkennis kan illustreer wat vir ’n spesifieke les benodig word en hierdie vaardigheid in lesbeplanning kan toepas; en
  • ’n les wat op ’n onderwerp in die kurrikulum gebaseer is kreatief kan beplan en ’n inleiding daaroor kan aanbied.

After completing this module, students should be able to

  • keep a record of their growth towards becoming a Mathematical Literacy teacher;
  • have insight into their own identity and growth, which is needed for being a Mathematical Literacy teacher;
  • have knowledge of why it is essential to be mathematically literate in the 21st century – together with its history and roots – and understand how the subject of Mathematical Literacy contributes  to this;
  • analyse the difference between the subjects Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy in the FET phase and apply this knowledge to contribute to their identity as a Mathematical Literacy teacher;
  • recognise and explain the importance of applying basic mathematical skills in everyday problems and design basic activities to illustrate this;
  • have the ability to work collaboratively on a task and reflect on the result and process constructively;
  • identify prior knowledge necessary for a specific lesson and apply this skill in lesson planning; and
