Na die voltooiing van hierdie module sal studente
- kennis van kinderontwikkeling tussen graad 3 en 4 gebruik, met die fokus op die identifisering van leerderbehoeftes aan die begin van die Intermediêre Fase;
- bewus wees van die twee primêre benaderings wat gebruik word om taal as 'n FAL in die Intermediêre Fase te onderrig;
- begrip demonstreer van die strategieë en subvaardighede wat geassosieer word met Engels FAL in graad 4 en graad 5; en
- elemente analiseer en 'n gebalanseerde benadering by die onderrig van 'n addisionele taal voorstel, gebaseer op die feit dat hulle leerders moet bevorder en in staat stel om die volgende te bemeester: luister en praat, lees, skryf en taalstrukture en -gebruik.

After completion of this module, the student should be able to
- show awareness of the primary approaches used in teaching reading as a first additional language in the Intermediate Phase;
- demonstrate an understanding of the strategies and sub-skills associated with grade four to grade six English First Additional Language reading;
- identify and extrapolate methods by integrating natural and enjoyable reading to cater for a variety of learners as well as circumstances; and
- analyse and supply elements of a balanced approach to teaching an additional language based on the fact that they will have to promote and enable learners to master the following: listening and speaking, reading, writing and language structures and use.
