After completing this module, students should be able to
- apply knowledge of child development and the development of language skills when teaching an additional language;
- plan activities to teach the different aspects of an additional language;
- identify the elements of a balanced approach for teaching an additional language;
- evaluate appropriate texts for the teaching of English and choose age-appropriate reading texts for grade R; and
- explain the presentation of additional language enjoyably and naturally in the entire language teaching programme and exhibit a clear understanding of accidental/casual acquisition of English in grade R.
