Ná die voltooiing van hierdie module sal studente

• gedetailleerde kennis en begrip van algebra en analitiese meetkunde toon, met spesifieke verwysing na die interaksie tussen hierdie twee wiskundekomponente en die algebraïese en grafiese voorstelling van lineêre en nielineêre vergelykings en ongelykhede; en kennis beskik van die wyse waarop hierdie interaksie tydens die oplossing van lewenswerklike probleme gebruik kan word;
• oor die vermoë beskik om toepaslike prosedures, reëls, beginsels, metodes en formules te identifiseer, te kies, te evalueer en toe te pas tydens die algebraïese en grafiese oplos van lineêre en nielineêre vergelykings en ongelykhede in onbekende lewenswerklike kontekste;
• die vermoë toon om, in verbale en geskrewe vorm, grafiese en algebraïese voorstellings van lineêre en nielineêre vergelykings en ongelykhede asook die gegenereerde oplossings van probleme op ‘n betroubare en samehangende wyse aan te bied en te kommunikeer deur toepaslike wiskundige terminologie, simbole en notasie te gebruik;
• die vermoë toon om, indiwidueel of in groepverband, onbekende lewenswerklike probleme, wat verband hou met grafiese en algebraïese voorstellings van lineêre en nielineêre vergelykings en ongelykhede, voor te stel en op te los deur die toepassing van toepaslike metodes, werkswyses en berekenings, insluitende die gebruik van tegnologie soos sakrekenaars, rekenaarsagteware en webgebaseerde Wiskunde-toepassingsprogrammatuur (“mathematical tools”);
• die vermoë toon om toepaslike inligtingversamelingstegnieke en -metodes uit verskillende bronne toe te pas, die bronne en inligting te evalueer en inligting toepaslik vir die taak te selekteer, te analiseer, te sintetiseer en die resultate te interpreteer; en
• oor die ingesteldheid en vermoë beskik om verantwoordelikheid te neem vir eie leer deur vordering van eie leer te monitor; krities oor eie prestasie kan reflekteer en dit aan die hand van gegewe kriteria evalueer; en toepaslike leerstrategieë en hulpbronne kan implementeer om die uitkomstes van hierdie module te bereik en terselfdertyd tot die bevordering van ander se leer by te dra.

After completing this module, students should be able to

• show detailed knowledge and an understanding of algebra and analytical geometry, with specific reference to the interaction between these two components of mathematics and the algebraic and graphical representation of linear and non-linear equations and inequalities; and know in which way the interaction can be used during the solving of real-life problems;
• have the ability to identify, choose, evaluate and apply applicable procedures, rules, principles, methods, and formulas in the algebraic and graphic solving of linear and non-linear equations and inequalities in unknown real-life contexts;
• show the ability to present and communicate, in verbal and written form, graphic and algebraic representations of linear and non-linear equations and inequalities as well as the generated solutions of problems reliably and coherently by using appropriate mathematical terminology, symbols and notation;
• show the ability to present and solve unknown real-life problems that are relevant to graphic and algebraic representations of linear and non-linear equations and inequalities by applying appropriate methods, work methods, and calculations, including web-based mathematical tools individually or in a group setting;
• show the ability to apply appropriate methods and techniques of gathering information from various sources, evaluate the sources and information, select, analyse and synthesise information suitable for the task, and interpret the results; and

• have the mindset and ability to take responsibility for own learning by monitoring the progress of own learning; critically reflect on and evaluate own performance against given criteria; and implement suitable learning strategies and resources to achieve the outcomes of this module and at the same time contribute to the learning of others.
