After completing this module, students should be able to

• apply knowledge literacy, in respect of which they can demonstrate an understanding of knowledge as contested and show the ability to read a variety of prescribed poetry throughout the module;
• have a scope of knowledge, in respect of which they can demonstrate integrated knowledge of the setting, characters, historical background, etc.;
• apply method and procedure, in respect of which they can formulate an opinion regarding the theme, figures of speech, and the general message present in the poem;
• have a scope of knowledge, in respect of which they can critically discuss the effectiveness of the poet using the various figures of speech to portray particular messages to the reader; and
• apply method and procedure, in respect of which they can analyse a variety of poems critically.
