After completing this module, students should be able to
- have literacy knowledge which will enable them to identify the needs of learners at the beginning of the tuition for the Senior Phase/Further Education and Training, as well as the development of language skills in the FAL;
- have literacy knowledge according to which they will be able to distinguish between a variety of different theories focused on efficient tuition of an additional language;
- have literacy knowledge according to which they will be able to formulate a viewpoint and evaluate approaches regarding the tuition of English as a FAL,
- have literacy knowledge according to which they can use a balanced approach when teaching an additional language; and
- have literacy knowledge according to which they can understand the diverse context of the South African classroom and be empathic regarding the conditions of the learners in the classroom.
