Ná die voltooiing van hierdie module sal studente
- oor geïntegreerde kennis en begrip beskik van Wiskundeonderwys se wêreldwye hervorming in die Senior Fase; begrip bevat rakende probleme met die onderrig en leer van Wiskunde in die Senior Fase; die verwantskap kan begryp tussen Wiskunde en ander skoolvakke; kennis dra oor die invloed wat onderwysers se beskouings en oortuigings oor Wiskunde op hul onderrig en betekenisvolle leer van Wiskunde in die Senior Fase uitoefen; kennis kan demonstreer oor die rol van die onderwyser in betekenisvolle leer van Wiskunde; algemene foute en wanopvattings in Wiskunde in die Senior Fase kan uitwys; diversiteit (veeltaligheid, multikulturele, gender en leervermoë) in die Senior Fase Wiskunde-klaskamer kan verstaan; en ʼn grondige begrip kan toon van die wyse waarop hierdie kennis verwant is aan ander aspekte van Wiskundeonderrig se metodiek;
- oor die vermoë beskik om ʼn verskeidenheid ondersoekmetodes te selekteer ten einde hul gepastheid te evalueer en in die konteks van hierdie module te ondersoek; en hierdie kennis kan toepas en probleme kan oplos, wat kan lei tot die verbetering van Wiskundeonderrig in die Senior Fase, met inagneming van die etiese waardes en gedrag en die wisselwerking tussen wiskunde, tegnologie en die gemeenskap;
- oor die vermoë beskik, as individu of as deel van ʼn groep, om probleme doeltreffend met die onderrig en leer van Wiskunde in die Senior Fase te identifiseer, te ontleed, te evalueer, krities daaroor te besin en dit kan aanspreek deur gepaste metodes en/of teoriegebaseerde en opvoedkundige argumente aan te wend;
- oor vaardighede beskik om inligting wat tersaaklik is vir hierdie module te versamel, te verwerk en te bestuur, wat die vermoë insluit om die inligtingsbronne te staaf, die inligting te ontleed, te evalueer en te sintetiseer en om hiermee saam ook resultate in ʼn gegewe konteks toe te pas; en
- oor die vermoë beskik om eie idees en menings te ontwikkel, gebaseer op die resultate van werkopdragte of inligtingsoektogte en voorgestelde oplossings van ware lewensprobleme; en oor die vermoë beskik om hierdie idees en menings deur goed geformuleerde argumente te kommunikeer deur toepaslike professionele en etiese beginsels en konvensies te handhaaf.

After completing this module, students should be able to
- have integrated knowledge and an understanding of the worldwide reform in the Senior Phase of Mathematics teaching; have an understanding regarding problems with teaching and learning Mathematics in the Senior Phase; have an understanding of the relation between Mathematics and other school subjects; have knowledge of the influence that teachers’ views and beliefs of Mathematics may have on their teaching and meaningful learning of Mathematics in the Senior Phase; demonstrate knowledge of the teacher’s role in the meaningful learning of Mathematics; point out general errors and misconceptions regarding Mathematics in the Senior Phase; understand diversity (multilingualism, multiculturism, gender, and learning ability) in the Senior Phase Mathematics classroom; and show an in-depth understanding of how this knowledge is related to other aspects of Mathematics teaching’s methodology;
- have the ability to select various methods in order to evaluate their suitability and investigate them in the context of this module; and apply this knowledge and solve problems that can lead to the improvement of Mathematics teaching in the Senior Phase, taking into consideration the ethical values and behaviour and the interaction between mathematics, technology and the community;
- have the ability to identify, analyse, evaluate, reflect critically on, and address problems effectively with the teaching and learning of Mathematics in the Senior Phase through the application of appropriate methods and/or theory-based and educational arguments as an individual and as part of a group;
- have the skills to collect, process, and manage information that is relevant to this module, which includes the ability to validate information sources, analyse and synthesise the information and also apply the results in a given context; and
- have the ability to develop own ideas and opinions based on the results of assignments or information searches and proposed solutions for real-life problems; and communicate these ideas and opinions through well-formulated arguments by adhering to appropriate professional and ethical principles and conventions.
