After completing this module, students should be able to

  • recognise and discover the various roles of the English FAL educator paying particular attention to the essence of good administration as well as effective time management;
  • compare and evaluate the differences in lesson plans used in the different Intermediate Phase grades;
  • create and develop strategies to plan activities to teach different aspects of an additional language;
  • identify and differentiate methods of integrating the teaching of an additional language naturally and enjoyably to cater for a variety of learners and circumstances;
  • facilitate a lesson based on the four essential skills by incorporating the methods suggested; and
  • categorise and distinguish between the effective assessment tools, including ICTs and taxonomies, used in the different grades of the Intermediate Phase.
