Ná die voltooiing van hierdie module sal studente

  • spesifieke kennis en ingeligte begrip van getalle, getalvoorstelling en eienskappe van die volgende getalstelsels toon: natuurlike getalle, telgetalle, heelgetalle, reële getalle en komplekse getalle; en ‘n ingeligte begrip kan demonstreer van die verwantskappe tussen die getalstelsels;
  • kennis beskik rakende die wyse waarop die getalkonsep ontstaan en ontwikkel het en begryp watter invloed dit op wiskundige bewerkings uitoefen;
  • die vermoë toon om standaardmetodes, reëls, beginsels en formules binne die terrein van getalstelsels te selekteer en toe te pas, onder omstandighede waarmee hulle vertroud is en waarin hulle ondersteun word;
  • die vermoë toon om, indiwidueel of in groepverband, roetine en nieroetineprobleme rakende getalstelsels te identifiseer, te analiseer, op te los en te evalueer, wat binne bekende sowel as nuwe lewenswerklike kontekste geskied;
  • die vermoë toon om, in mondelinge sowel as geskrewe formate, relevante terminologie, simbole en notasie te gebruik ten einde inligting met betrekking tot getalstelsels in te samel, te verwerk en te kommunikeer; en
  • oor die ingesteldheid en vermoë beskik om eie leer te monitor, eie prestasie te evalueer, en, indien nodig, toepaslike leerstrategieë en hulpbronne te implementeer om die uitkomste van hierdie module te bereik en om ook op 'n soortgelyke wyse die leer van ander groepslede te bevorder.

After completing this module, students should be able to 

  • show specific knowledge and an informed understanding of numbers, presentation of numbers, and characteristics of the following number systems: natural numbers, integers, real numbers, and complex numbers; and demonstrate an informed understanding of the relations between the number systems;
  • know how the number concept originated and developed and understand its influence on mathematical calculations;
  • show the ability to select and apply standard methods, rules, principles, and formulas in the area of number systems, in circumstances with which they are familiar and in which they are supported;
  • show the ability to identify, analyse, solve, and evaluate routine and nonroutine problems regarding number systems within known as well as new real-life contexts individually or in a group setting;
  • show the ability to use relevant terminology, symbols, and notation, in oral as well as written format, to collect, process, and communicate information regarding number systems; and
  • have the mindset and ability to monitor own learning, evaluate own performance, and, if necessary, implement appropriate learning strategies and resources to achieve the outcomes of this module and promote the learning of other group members similarly.
