Ná die voltooiing van hierdie module sal studente

  • die selstruktuur en seltipes, fotosintese as energie-omsetting in plante en sellulêre respirasie as die vrystelling van energie in alle lewende organismes kan verduidelik;
  • die struktuur en funksie van die mens se liggaamstelsels kan verduidelik en begrip van ’n gesonde dieet, voedingstowwe en hul funksies kan demonstreer;
  • seksuele en aseksuele voortplanting by plante en diere en lewende organismes in hoofgroepe (plante, diere, fungi, protiste en bakterieë) kan verduidelik;
  • ekosisteme, voedselwebbe en nutriëntsiklusse kan verduidelik en die impak van menslike aktiwiteite op die biosfeer, insluitend besoedeling, habitatverlies en klimaatsverandering, kan beskryf;
  • kan verduidelik hoe lewende organismes op stimuli reageer en verskillende tipes mikro-organismes en hul rol in siekte en gesondheid kan identifiseer; en 
  • vanuit ’n reformatoriese perspektief kan verduidelik dat die lewenswetenskappe ’n studie van God se skepping is en verantwoordelikheid teenoor die skepping in mondelinge en skriftelike assessering toon.

 

After completing this module, students will be able to:

  • explain cell structure and cell types, photosynthesis as energy conversion in plants, and cellular respiration as the release of energy in all living organisms;
  • explain the structure and function of the human body systems and demonstrate an understanding of a healthy diet, nutrients and their functions;
  • explain sexual and asexual reproduction in plants and animals, as well as living organisms in the major groups (plants, animals, fungi, protists, and bacteria);
  • explain ecosystems, food webs and nutrient cycles, and describe the impact of human activities on the biosphere, including pollution, habitat loss and climate change;
  • explain how living organisms respond to stimuli and identify different types of microorganisms and their role in disease and health; and
  • explain, from a reformational perspective, that the life sciences are the study of God's creation and demonstrate responsibility towards creation in oral and written assessments.
